Denver offers so many opportunities!  Known as the West side of Lake Norman and bordered by several small towns and communities, Denver is booming with growth and activity.

Denver maintains that 'small town' feel, yet provides easy access to the amenities of many larger municipalities.  Venues for dining, education, employment, healthcare, recreation, shopping and worship are within minutes in any direction.  Hwy 16 is the main artery, connecting the area between Hwy 73 and Hwy 150, affectionately known as Denver.  I-85, I-77, I-40 and I-485 are minutes away, making travel a snap.  Many residents commute to Gastonia, Charlotte, Huntersville, Cornelius, Mooresville, Hickory, Statesville and other areas to work.

While many of Denver's residents have long term connections to the area, as many are 'newbies', moving here to embrace the lake life.  Because of the attraction of Lake Norman, growth has surged in the area.  Many new neighborhoods have been developed and with that, new schools have been built to accommodate the growth.  Denver area schools are unsurpassed for excellence, due to the quality of the staff and the parental and community support.

Lake Norman

Lake Norman is an "inland sea" with 520 miles of shoreline and a surface area of more than 32,475 acres. Named after former Duke Power president Norman Cocke, Lake Norman is nearly as large as the other ten lakes on the Catawba River combined.

Full pond elevation at Lake Norman is 760 feet. The water of Lake Norman is used in two ways to provide electricity to the Piedmont Carolinas. It is used to power the generators at Cowans Ford Hydroelectric Station and by Marshall Steam Station and McGuire Nuclear Station to cool the steam that drives the turbines. This steam is condensed back to water so it can be pumped back through the plants and used again.

The lake provides a dependable supply of water to Lincoln County, Davidson, Mooresville, Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Huntersville, North Carolina.  In addition, Duke Energy has built two bank fishing areas and eight public boating access areas along the shoreline.  Use of the boating areas is free to the general public.
